Mustang of the Month

1967 Springtime Yellow Coupe & 2005 Torch Red GT

My first car was ‘66 Dodge Dart. My Dad thought it was good starter car. It was, but not very “cool” in high school. The summer after graduating and while the rest of my family was on vacation, I figured I could spend my money as I saw fit without Dad’s advice.

I bought a 67 red “GT”. Definitely moving up the cool meter. Started doing some research (after buying the car) and discovered it was not a GT, just a coupe with some GT parts added. It soon started burning oil pretty bad. Then I learned about Bondo cracks and my new car had a few.

Luckily, in 1978, Dad came through and told me of a friend that was selling his wife’s ‘67 Springtime Yellow coupe. They were the 2nd owner, low miles, did have one accident. Bought it. Going through the paperwork they included with the car, it was sold by Titus-Will to Hertz Rent-a-Car and there was one rental contract from a soldier at Ft Lewis in the paperwork. Put a lot of miles on that car, currently about 250K. It was a fun car. The plan was to restore it, but life happened, and it has spent most of its life since the late 80s in various storage locations, making it very inconvenient to work on.

It has been in storage at my parents for four years now. It ran very rough when moving it there from a paid storage facility. And it has sat since. Battery now long dead. Makes me sad when I visit her.

But in 2005, I bought my new Mustang and it is loads of fun to drive! Still haven’t decided on long term plans for the ‘67 but I need to at least get it running again.
